There In The Distance
04:20
|
|||
It's there in the distance for my innocent eye,
I'm able to see it when I don't really try,
It's flat on the earth and yet it floats like a dream,
I know its organic but it seems part machine
It's louder than thunder and it's as silent as snow,
It seems ready to stay and it seems ready to go,
It's logically sacred and its speaking to me,
It's there in the distance the way it should be,
There in the distance
Sometimes it looks just like a tornado cloud,
Ghostly and grim, an executioner's shroud,
Then it shimmers and dances and plays in the sun,
And it shines like a new world where life has begun
There was this one night when daddy stood up,
He said, I just got to reach it, I have witnessed enough,
I don't really care if this means that I die,
It's there in the distance and I just got to try
There in the distance
Yeah, there in the distance I think I see my one true love,
She's waving to me, and now she's rising up on angel wings
There in the distance
I'm just like you, friend, I suffer the dream,
I sift through the ciphers to see what they mean,
Now it doesn't matter if I get there alone,
It's there in the distance and I think its my home
There in the distance
Hey, I'm thinking that if we could turn off the TV for a while
And put down the microchips, maybe we could, you know,
Bring that distance to us, get in touch with our inner horizons,
Something like that...
In other news, you are being watched, you are being watched...
Stay tune for further developments...
It's there in the distance...

Mama Want Cake
03:34
|
|||
Tell you 'bout big mama, mama don't like it small,
She wants it elegant, she wants the money spent,
Or else she will not play at all
Mama went down to the freight yard, wearing her spaghetti bib,
She said, well, I want some more, so sonny, open that door,
And that's exactly what they did
That's because mama want cake, mama want a big slice of cake, yes, she does
Now mama is a gentle woman, but she's a holy terror in a fight,
She say, well, bring me a horse, hand me a lance,
Honey, we will do this right
Big mama had a silver dollar that she traded for a gravity knife,
She say that one never know when the goods gonna show ,
And man, I want to cut me a slice
Mama want cake, mama want a big slice of cake, yes, she does
Look out now, here's comes mama with a big shopping bag
They say the nervous ones live in the future, the sad ones live in the past,
But big mama's fine living her own sweet time cuz that's the only kind that will last
Don't you know that mama want cake, mama want a big slice of cake, yes, she does
Look out now, here come mama with a burlap sack

Let Go
04:15
|
|||
There's a time for sweet surrender, there's a time to let it go,
All my words you will remember when your baggage blocks the flow,
There's a time to kick the habit, identify it, cut it loose,
Build a house that you go inhabit, add some paint and a twig of spruce -
Let go:
Three quarters of your worry list, the concerts you may have missed,
The papers in your dark garage, three quarters of your camouflage,
The ballad of your own regret, the words you're saving for your dying breath,
Your dear and your daily tricks, let go! and nothing sticks
Everybody's house has got a haunted hallway, everybody's got a history,
There's too many bats up in the deadweight belfry, take a chance and let em free,
Show some motion, show some magic, you don't got to raise a shout,
Everybody's life is tragic, you're not the one they singled out
Let go:
Your taste and your love for gloom, your fear of the rumpus room,
Your need for the flagrant feast, the one that denies you peace,
The people of the useless talk, the people who curse your walk,
The zombie beneath the stairs, just know its likely that he's not there
Let go!

Here We Stand
03:38
|
|||
The curtain is falling on our carnival show,
It won't be too long now til we're all out of work
And there is no other place we can go,
There is no other place we can go
The crack in the ceiling has spread through the world,
Seems a black light is bleeding from another dimension
And I dream about a predator bird,
People dream about a predator bird
(refrain)
Here we stand and fall and rise again,
There is a plan, this all comes to an end,
With peace and love for all,
Yes, peace and love, so here we stand
Our leader's gone missing and he's not yet been found,
Seems we're all on our own now, we'd run to the churchyard,
But someone burned it down to the ground,
Someone burned it all to the ground
We're orphans at midnight around an oil drum fire,
We're sharing the breadsticks as we wait for the sunrise
With a revolutionary desire,
Yeah, we got a revolutionary desire
(refrain)

The Quiet Life
02:50
|
|||
There came one morning when I'd had enough
Of all the downtown racket and the huff and puff,
I felt the whole wide world getting in my face,
I mean the crash and the clatter come from every place -
So I donned my work shirt and my corduroys
And then I went out looking to escape the noise,
You know I searched the city for some silent ground,
But the devil's anvil, that was all I found -
Just looking for a port of call where I could hear a teardrop fall -
I'll find my spirit and we'll reunite,
I'm just looking for the quiet life
So I left the city for the country realm,
I thought the wayward silence would just overwhelm,
But the birds were screeching and the wind was loud,
And the coyotes howled like an angry mob
So I climbed up a mountain where the air was rare,
And near the snow peak I found a guy just sitting there,
He said, I know what you're seeking and you're far from home,
But it's home where you'll find it, brother, on your own
What's he saying, what's that mean? Is this just a foolish dream?
I'll keep on searching til I get it right,
I'm still looking for the quiet life

Its not my circus, not my monkeys,
Not my darkness and fear,
You can hang with the misery junkies,
I'll be standing over here
Yellow plaster falling upon you
Each time and wherever you go,
Not my circus, not my monkeys,
Seems you'll be the last to know
A preacher is standing up shouting,
People listen but no one learns,
Not my circus, not my monkeys,
Not my problem, its all yours
Tell truth, you sorta like it,
It keeps you well occupied,
And since you never will fight it,
It just curls up inside
Not my monkeys, not my circus,
Not my complexities,
I see where the shadow is lurking,
It feeds on your fantasies
Don't think that it gives me a pleasure
To sit here and watch you burn
But it's not my circus, not my monkeys,
So I'll just wait on your return
